The basics
- What is Hangwork?
- Hangwork is a portfolio site builder for visual artists. You design your site in our editor, and it's published as a fast, plain-file website. Choose monthly hosted access or pay once for lifetime access and downloads. It stays portfolio-first, with a simple product catalog when you want to sell work through your own Stripe checkout.
- Do I need to know how to code?
- No. The editor is visual: arrange your pieces on a freeform canvas or a grid, choose your fonts and colors, add subpages. If you can hang work on a wall, you can build a site here.
- Do I need an account?
- A free Hangwork account, yes — it’s where your published site lives, and it’s how you edit from any device. There’s no password to invent: sign in with your email (we send you a link) or with Google. Setting it up takes under a minute.
- What's my web address?
- You get yourname.hangwork.art at no extra cost, and you pick the name. If you already own a domain, you can connect that instead.
Ownership
- Does anything renew?
- Lifetime access never renews. Monthly access renews every month until you cancel. You must keep the monthly subscription paid to use the editor and publishing tools; when paid access ends, your published site goes offline. Restart monthly access or upgrade to lifetime to restore a site paused for billing.
- What happens if Hangwork shuts down?
- With lifetime access, you can download the site as plain web files that any host can serve. If we ever wind down, we’ll give lifetime customers a reasonable opportunity to retrieve those files before Hangwork-hosted sites go offline. Monthly access does not include downloads, but monthly customers can upgrade to lifetime while the service is operating.
- Who owns my images and my site?
- You do, entirely. We never claim rights to your work, we don’t watermark it, and we don’t train anything on it. Lifetime access includes complete site and editable-backup downloads; monthly access does not include downloads.
- Can I leave?
- Yes. Lifetime customers can download a folder of ordinary web files that works on any host. Monthly customers can cancel future renewals, but the Hangwork-hosted site goes offline when the paid period ends; upgrade to lifetime first if you want downloadable files.
Limits and fine print
- Is it really unlimited images?
- There’s no image count and no fee that grows with use, but hosting has real limits: each file must be under 18 MB, and a site can hold about 1 GB in total — room for well over a thousand web-ready images. Traffic isn’t metered against you; only sites drawing extraordinary, non-portfolio levels of traffic can be throttled. If you’re posting hundreds of full-resolution TIFFs, export them for web first, and embed long videos from YouTube or Vimeo rather than uploading them.
- Can I sell work on my site?
- Yes — through your own Stripe account. The Store tab builds a catalog and Shop page, and you can place Products sections on other pages. Each size, edition, or format opens its own Stripe-hosted Payment Link; the money, buyer details, orders, and receipts stay in Stripe, with no Hangwork cut or marketplace in between. Hangwork doesn’t provide a multi-item cart, synchronized inventory, or an order dashboard: you mark work sold out manually and must also deactivate or limit its Payment Link in Stripe.
- Is my site private?
- Published sites are public — that's what a portfolio is for. Drafts you haven't published stay hidden. If you need password-protected client galleries, Hangwork isn't the right tool for that part.
Money
- How much does it cost?
- $99 once buys lifetime access with every feature, including site and backup downloads. $10 per month includes everything except downloads and requires continued payment to keep access and the published site online. Active monthly customers get $10 off a later lifetime upgrade. There is a 14-day refund on a lifetime purchase or first monthly payment.
- Which plan should I choose?
- Choose monthly if you want the lowest starting cost and are comfortable keeping an active subscription. Choose lifetime if you want every feature, downloads, and no renewal. If you start monthly, your first $10 payment becomes a $10 credit toward lifetime access, and the monthly subscription ends automatically when the lifetime payment succeeds.
- What's your refund policy?
- If Hangwork isn't for you, email us within 14 days of a lifetime purchase or your first monthly payment for a full refund, no questions asked. Monthly renewal payments are final except where the law requires otherwise.
- What do I do if I'm stuck?
